How to Create a Home Lighting Design Plan

Light is a natural resource that we receive from the sun. We need good lighting in our homes to help us in our daily activities. The lighting can be natural, that occurs during the daytime or artificial, which is created by the design plans of lighting.

Direct sunlight, as it comes under indirect sky. The light can be bright or filtered according to the orientation of the sun and the time of day. It is important to analyze natural light to every room to create your design plan from the inside as well as the number of windows and great lighting. For example, north facing rooms provide fresh, light colder and darker blue sun so you may need additional lighting. South and west exposure will fade, warmer yellow and will be brighter. The goal is to have as many as possible in your home with natural light.

When natural light is not possible, as a rainy day, evening or night, because of the lack of windows or orientation of windows that cause low light, we do so that, through the use of different sources of artificial light throughout the house.

Good lighting not only allows us to see, but expands our visibility. Good lighting helps complete our tasks effectively. As we age, we need more light. Humans need to be exposed to a specific amount of light each day to physiologically better performance, neurological and sleep behavior according

A good lighting plan includes the creation of the function, mood and harmony. You start with a careful analysis of your room. What is the function of the room? Where are the areas of work? What is the style and the mood you want to create? Work areas are task lighting, which is more direct, whiter and brighter. Accent (mood) lighting is next. It highlights the special areas of your room, you may want to display as the silhouette of a plant, a painting or a beautiful piece of art. 

Accent lighting can also add a little drama to a room. Accent lighting is a soft type of lighting. It is always good to review your plan at night. Once you task lighting and accent, if your room is still dark areas and need additional lighting, add (general) ambient lighting in specific areas. Choose a fixture as a work of art. For example, a lamp lighting a flare up. Soft lighting, a great way to bring the drama to a room and brighten up a dark corner is added.

Fixtures come in many styles. To create harmony, choose accessories that support your style of room design. In other words, if you have a modern room, choose a modern accessory. If traditional, choose traditional. You also want different types of lighting such as ceiling-mounted appliances, wall mounted table, wall and ceiling lamps. Choose different directions of lighting and different heights for the placement of lighting and different intensities.
